Prerequisites: ENGL 10803, ENGL 20803, and at least one 10000- or 20000-level ENGL/WRIT/CRWT course. An intensive study of the pleasures and difficulties of long novels, which represent a unique genre of literature. Each semester focuses on three or four novels generally regarded as works of tremendous influence, but which may be too involved for study in survey courses. The novels will be selected from different periods, cultures, and languages.
